May 27 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

May 27th, 2012:  The first guests for the lodge arrived today to the warmest and calmest day we've had since early May!  Earlier this week we ran into what looked like a blizzard and before that it was just cold and raining!  Looks like tomorrow will be a bit nasty as well so we'll enjoy today while we can.  I told the guests who arrived today to spend as much time as they could fishing because [...]

May 23 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

March 23rd, 2012:  Tom and I attempted to drive a new quad and Polaris Ranger into Bolton but ran into nothing but bad luck. It's been the most mild winter I've ever seen and it will be a record breaking early ice out this year unless we have a really cold April. The machines are stuck out in the bush as we were picked up by ski plane after spending 2 days and a night out [...]

May 20 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

May 20th, 2012:  Our first guests arrive today and it's a beautiful day!  It rained most of the day yesterday and we spent the previous day getting Aswap set up.  The new motors are on the boats, the boats are cleaned and ready with all the nets, paddles, life preservers, seats and measuring boards.  The cabin was beaten pretty badly by a bear or it could have been a bunch of bears there was so much [...]

May 14 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

May 14th, 2012:  The ice is all gone from our lakes and we're almost ready to start another great season at Bolton Lake!  Our freight haul was finally finished yesterday, we had to bring in a different airplane because the one we were using had problems with his flaps and needed to leave for maintenance but I luckily happened to be in the air when our friends from Keystone Air were passing through the area.  Their [...]

May 4 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

May 4th, 2012: Made it to the lodge on Wednesday with Tom and Trevor (T3) with the new airplane.  We had to fly low and through some snow showers but about 100 miles south of the lodge the skies really picked up and we landed in the sun at camp.  See the pictures below for the aerial pictures of the lodge and the ice.  I took the pictures yesterday before flying back to Winnipeg.  I haven't [...]

April 29 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

April 29th, 2012: Our season is nearly upon us! I'll be heading up to the lodge in the next few days with Tom and Trevor (guide) to take our first look since October. I've been talking to friends in Island Lake and Norway House and they say that the snow is gone but the ice is still fairly solid on the lakes. There are open spots in the rivers and around shore but the main ice [...]

March 12 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

March 12th, 2012:  It's warming up in Winnipeg very quickly!  By the end of this week there probably won't be any snow left in town and I might even be wearing shorts if the long range forecast is accurate.  I got out ice fishing a bit more this winter with Adam, we did well on Lake Trout and we landed a few Whitefish before the blizzard started and the fish shut down so we were happy [...]

February 8 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

February 8th, 2012: It's been a while since my last update, it's amazing how we can get so busy! Over the past month I have visited St. Louis, Indianapolis, Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee and Las Vegas. We're taking a short holiday and then we'll be back to more shows in Minneapolis and Phoenix before the month is over. As busy as I've been, I still took a bit of time to ice fish with Adam (new guide [...]
